Pomp and Circumstance.London : 1960 Stock Code: 121722
NotesFirst edition, first impression. Presentation copy to Vivien Leigh, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper: "Dear Darling, many many happy returns, love Noëlie". An excellent association: Coward was a long-time friend of both Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier. He had launched Olivier's career by giving him the part of Victor Prynne in Private Lives in 1930, and later worked with Leigh in South Sea Bubble (1956) and Look After Lulu (1959). The novel Pomp and Circumstance has the same colonial island setting as his play South Sea Bubble.
Octavo. Original blue boards, titles to spine white. With the dust jacket.
Board edges faintly sunned and bumped. An excellent copy in a slightly rubbed jacket with a few minor nicks and creases to extremities.
