A very handsome copy of the comedies of Terence, likely bound for gift presentation as inscribed on the front pastedown, "E Libris, Caroli W. Williams Wynn, Aedis Xti Oxon, alumni, D. D. J. M. G., A.D. 1839", marking the year that Charles Watkins Williams-Wynn (1822-1896) matriculated into Christ Church, Oxford. The 2nd-century BC Roman playwright Terence was a freed slave originally from Africa, famous for his comedies and the quotation, "Homo sum, humani nihil a me alienum puto" ("I am human, and think nothing human alien to me", from the play Heauton Timorumenos, included here).
