Voices of Gay Buddhists. Edited by Winston Leyland.San Francisco: Gay Sunshine Press, 1998-2000 Stock Code: 123281
NotesFirst edition, first printing, scarce cloth issue, of this unprecedented anthology of gay Buddhist writing. This copy derives from the personal collection of editor and publisher Winston Leyland, with his inscription "Winston Leyland July 2017" to both title pages. The majority of the limited hardback issues of Gay Sunshine Press books were sold to libraries and are consequently scarce. Winston Leyland (b.1940) was a leading figure in American LGBT publishing and won the Stonewall Book Award in 1980. He established the Gay Sunshine Press in 1975, which was notable for its pioneering anthologies of gay writing from other cultures, and his Gay Sunshine Journal (1970-82) was particularly influential for its interviews with prominent gay writers of the era.
Two volumes, octavo. Original pink cloth, titles gilt to spines, patterned endpapers. With the illustrated dust jackets.
Small tear to head of jacket spine panel in vol. 1, otherwise fine.
