Questions to be asked by the Poll Clerks, who are to enter the Answers given by Voters in the books.[Northampton?], [1767?] Stock Code: 120704
NotesA remarkable survival, being a sheet of instructions given to poll clerks in the 18th century, probably for the Northampton Borough Election of 1767-8. The instructions instruct the clerk to ask the voters name, where they live, where their freehold lies, and what is consists of; then, who is the occupier of the lands if they own it, and who they rent from if not, and finally, to tell them to take the freeholder's oath, and the oath against bribery, and finally to ask them whom they vote for. A great rarity, with only one other known surviving copy, in Northampton Record Office.
Single sheet of parchment, printed on one side only.
Toned and lightly soiled, else in very good condition.
