First UK edition, first impression, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper in the year of publication, "Basil & Kathleen from C. S. Forester May 1951", to his friends Basil Liddell Hart and his wife. Liddell Hart vetted Forester's classic antiwar novel, The General (1936).

First published in the US in 1950, this is one of Forester's few novels with a modern setting. Randall and the River of Time tells the story of Randall and "of his experiences as a fighting man, as a lover, and as a returned soldier in the strange world of peace" (dust jacket).
