NotesFirst separate publication, following appearance in an English periodical. Presentation copy, inscribed on the title page: "Charles Weld from his friend the author", with Weld's signature in pencil underneath. Nicholas Wiseman (1802- 865) was an Irish Cardinal, who in 1850 became the first Archbishop of Westminster upon the re-establishment of the Catholic hierarchy in England and Wales. The present tract is an aggressive response to the Irish novelist Lady Sydney Morgan's bold claim that the chair held by the Vatican, which they purport to be the throne of St Peter, was inscribed with the Islamic shahada.
Octavo (215 x 142 mm). Disbound, preserving front endpaper only.
Some very light foxing, tiny chips to final leaf. A good copy.
