Ricerche sulla Natura, e le Cagioni della Riccezza delle Nazioni …Naples: Giuseppe Policarpo Merande, 1790-1 Stock Code: 85981
Rare first Italian translation of the Wealth of Nations, probably the rarest of the 18th-century complete translations. No copy has appeared at auction since 1963.
5 volumes, octavo (181 x 112 mm). Volume 5 in contemporary vellum, spine lettered and numbered in gilt panels, volumes 1-4 rebound to match. Housed in a black cloth flat-back box by the Chelsea Bindery.
Complete with all half-titles and index leaves.
A few small wormholes to the spine of vol. 5, not entering the text. Half-title and title to vol. 2 with two small wormtrack holes, vol. 4 with wormtrack damage to the gutter very skilfully restored, occasionally touching the text, the missing text supplied in pen facsimile. Occasional spotting and staining as usual. A very attractive set.
