Roaring Tower and Other Stories.
London: Longmans, Green & Co., 1937 Stock Code: 122634
First edition, first impression. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper "For Bettina and Eric with the author's love. Stella Gibbons. Feb. 22 1937". This work is a collection of short stories "written with a refreshing, easy grace" typical of Gibbons (The London Mercury Vol XXXV, p. 532). The recipients, Eric Schilsky, a sculptor, and his first wife Bettina, were lifelong friends of Gibbons's. The Schilskys were the dedicatees of Gibbons' Miss Linsey and Pa, published the previous year. Inscribed copies of Gibbons's works are uncommon, with just five examples traced at auction.
Description
Octavo. Original blue cloth, title to spine and front cover in white. With the dust jacket.
Condition
Spine and edges of covers toned, extremities slightly worn, occasional foxing to text block. A very good copy in the bright and slightly chipped jacket, a bit of loss to spine and joint ends, joints creased, a few short closed tears to edges.
