Rocannon's World.New York: Harper & Row, 1977 Stock Code: 148104
First hardback edition, first printing, inscribed on the title "For Tom, with love, from Ursula". The recipient is likely the American science fiction author and poet, Thomas M. Disch (1940-2008). This hardback edition is uncommonly found signed.
Le Guin and Disch were near contemporaries in the science fiction community and seem to have had a cordial relationship, if not a close one. Each held a different outlook on the role of politics in the genre, and Disch poked fun at Le Guin's political correctness in his acclaimed work on the cultural impact of science fiction, The Dreams Our Stuff is Made Of. Both authors often shared playing inscriptions between each other.
Octavo. Original orange cloth-backed boards, spine lettered in silver. With dust jacket.
A fine copy in near-fine jacket, slight rubbing along upper edge, not price-clipped.
