This luxury edition was published for the centenary of Paul Verlaine's birthday. He wrote La Bonne Chanson, to celebrate the burgeoning love between him and Mathilde Mauté, his young bride, just before his encounter with Arthur Rimbaud and its tumultuous consequences.
Quarto (325 x 251 mm). Contemporary light grey half calf ruled in gilt, gilt titles on spine, patterned paper boards, original printed wrappers bound in, top edge gilt, others untrimmed, pink endpapers.
With 4 original sketches (3 initialled and one signed by the artist) bound in at beginning, hand-coloured lithographed plates by Roger Ferrero, in-text illustrations and suite in bistre or black.
Spine sunned and scuffed, rubbed. A very good copy indeed.
