"Sentimental Mr. Bechet" - signed 45 rpm EP.Paris, Vogue Productions (EPL. 7008), 1954 Stock Code: 130115
NotesSigned by Bechet and fellow clarinettist André Réwéliotty on label attached to front cover. Appealing EP, catching Bechet in the company of Claude Luter, Réwéliotty, and their respective bands, and including some of Bechet's signature pieces: "Summertime", "September Song", the self-penned "Petite Fleur" and "Jacqueline". The unsigned and unattributed cover artwork is very appealing, if a little incongruous in a Parisian context: the great clarinettist shown accompanying a canoodling couple on a gondola.
The famous Club des Disques labels, autographed by the leading performers of the day, were the brainchild of the astute impresario Bernard Coquatrix, owner from 1954 of the Paris Olympia, a celebrated venue which had become a shadow of its former self but which Coquatrix quickly rejuvenated and turned into a thriving nightspot, advertising it, as here, as "votre Music-Hall!".
Original 45 rpm acetate disc. With inner protective paper jacket and original pictorial sleeve.
Light signs of handling, a few slight abrasions to disc, overall in very good condition.
