First and ?only edition, a single copy traced at JCB. Abbreviated signal manual, including signals in fog and and at night, provided for Portuguese merchant ships travelling in convoy with British naval vessels during the closing stages of the Peninsular War. Appears over the printed signature of Sir George Smith as "Secretary of the Marine Headquarters", from 1812 to 1814 Smith was commander-in-chief in the Tagus. Attractive and uncommon.

Small quarto. 16-pages, sewn in original plain paper wrappers, some leaves watermarked "B. Ricardo".

Condition
Light browning overall, small stain in the lower margin, but overall very well-preserved, very good.
