Notes

First edition in English, first published in Paris in 1893. It presents a system of standardised physical measurements for the identification of criminals known as anthropometry, or more commonly still as Bertillonage. Despite the supercession of the system by the introduction of finger-printing, Bertillon was still responsible for the standardisation of the "mugshot."
