Sonetti del Burchiello,
del Bellincioni e d'Altri Poeti Fiorentini alla Burchillesca.1757 Stock Code: 39960
NotesFirst edition. Uncommon collection of the work the satirical 15th-century Florentine barber-poet, Giovanni di Domenico, known as Il Burchiello, because of his employment of the alla burchia style, together with that of some of his burchiellesca imitators. His sonnets drew on, adapted and developed vernacular poetical forms, his subject matter, anarchic, down-at-heel, and often licentious. Burchiello was exiled from Florence because of his opposition to the Medici, but it has been suggested that Lorenzo the Magnificent kept a volume of his verse in his private apartments.
Octavo. (193 x 135mm.). Modern Italian calf-backed patterned boards.
Engraved portrait frontispiece and title page.
A little browned, a prudish former owner has inked rather fetching kilts on the two naked figures on the title page, the binding somewhat basic and a little rubbed on joints, but very good.
