First edition thus, copy E of 26 lettered copies, this one of those retained by Lessing Rosenwald. The lettered copies were reserved for Rosenwald, the Library of Congress, the Trustees of the Blake Trust, and the publishers - this has a Trianon proof illustration laid in with the note on verso "Lessing Rosenwald's copy". The total edition was 526 copies.
A superb provenance - the book was reproduced from the original copy of Lessing Rosenwald, held in the Library of Congress, which he allowed to be sent to France to complete the project. Rosenwald (1891-1971), businessman and chairman of Sears from 1932 to 1939, devoted his wealth to acquiring a substantial rare book collection, which he deposited in the Library of Congress. His generosity allowed the Trianon Press to produce their series of Blake facsimiles, renowned for their role in reproducing texts which are otherwise unobtainable for the private collector.
