Souvenir de Flore ou le Langage des Fleurs.
Paris: Chez Rosa, Libraire, [c.1820] Stock Code: 128878
First edition of this attractive flower book, with 12 illustrations of bouquets, each with an imagined dialogue between the flowers. Incongruously, the latter section of the book is an account of the people and government of Turkey. No doubt produced as a ready-bound cheap gift book, the work is now a great rarity, with WorldCat listing only a single copy, in Berlin.
Description
Duodecimo (140 x 88 mm). Contemporary binding with wavy-grained paper backing to spine, dark red morocco label lettered in gilt, orange paper sides with printed lines and marbling effect.
Illustrations
12 hand-coloured plates and title page vignette of flowers; the 11th plate used as the frontispiece.
Condition
Half-title present. Lightly rubbed with some minor loss to spine backing and tips, tiny chip to front free endpaper and with rear free endpaper absent, some faint foxing. A very good copy of this fragile book.
