Spring Legend.Cairo: The Salamander Society, Stock Code: 99360
First edition. Presentation copy inscribed by Waller on recto of front wrapper: "To Bunty from John, 27 November 1942", and with a later inscription below: "To Stan Eker from John Waller", with Waller's annotations throughout. An eccentric alcoholic war-poet posted in the Middle East, John Waller (1917-1995) founded the Salamander Society (alongside the poet Keith Bullen) and launched Oasis: the Middle East Anthology of Poetry from the Forces in August 1943. After the war he published a number of well-received collections, including The Merry Ghosts (1946), Crusade (1946), and The Kiss of Stars (1948). He was awarded the Keats Prize in 1974.
Octavo. Original pale green wrappers printed in red and black.
Wrappers tanned, light offsetting to title page and last page, a few folds roughly opened. Otherwise an excellent copy.
