This copy is additionally inscribed by Hughes to the front free endpaper, "Among the acres of the rye / These pretty country folk do lie - With our sincere love from Carol and Ted June 27th 1975". The lines of verse are a slight mis-transcription of the song "It Was a Lover and His Lass" from As You Like It. Hughes married Carol Ann Orchard, the dedicatee of this work, in August 1970. A beautifully produced work printed at the Rampant Lions Press on tinted laid paper for the Rainbow Press. "Between 1971 and 1979 much of Hughes's writing was first collected in limited editions printed for the Rainbow Press, a publishing imprint owned by Hughes and his sister Olwyn" (Sagar & Tabor).
