First edition. Detailed study of the "intricate and difficult subject" of trying on and fitting, the adjusting of the final fit across the full range ladies' garments. Includes numerous cutting diagrams, together with images of the fitting rooms at Swears & Wells, and accoutrement, a fitting table for skirts, folding mirrors, a range of dummies and the "dummy horse" for fitting riding habits. Rare, just a single copy located at the American College in London, it was also published as part of The Cutter's Practical Guide to the Remedy of Defects: in the Fit and Style of all Kinds of Garments, copies at the University of the Arts, London and BL only.

The last two pages are dedicated to "Classic & Modern Ideals of Proportionate Development" and carry photographs of Miss Annette Kellermann "whose natural proportions are identical with the present-day standard of perfect physical development" together with the Venuses de Milo and de'Medici and a tabulation of their measurements for comparison purposes. Loosely inserted are two rather worn hand-written letters dated in 1915 from principles of the 'French-Australian League of Help' sent to a cutter, one thanking him for his offer to join them for a day cutting out "simple frocks for young girls", the other for his efforts "cutting so well 134 pairs of under pants" for them, together with a photogravure portrait of Queen Alexandra.
