A sharp set from the collection of Lord Esher

First edition, publisher's presentation copy, with purple inkstamp "With the Publisher's Compliments" at the head of each title, and the discreet blindstamps of Rougham Hall, Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk. A superb set from the library of the fastidious book collector Oliver Brett (1881-1963, 3rd Viscount Esher), his sale, Sotheby's, 11-12 March 1968, lot 302.

Edel & Laurence state that the first printing was of 500 copies, published 16 February 1886, with a second undifferentiated impression of 100 copies the following month.
