Notes

First and only edition, uncommon Copac lists just 5 locations, BL, NLS, Cambridge, Oxford and TCD. Attractive and practical, this little manual was published some eight years before the founding of the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy; "My object in writing this little book, has been to provide novices in the cat fancy with a useful handbook, and, with this end in view I have paid particular attention to those points upon which I am most frequently asked for advice, through the columns of The Ladies' Field" (Preface). Interest in exotic breeds of cat began to rise Britain after Queen Victoria gave her seal of approval with the purchase of two blue Persians at the first modern cat show at Crystal Palace in 1871.
