The Circle Game.Toronto: Contact Press, 1966 Stock Code: 124183
NotesFirst edition, signed by the author on the title page, one of 200 copies issued in wrappers aside from a "Library edition" of 50 hardback copies. The Circle Game was Atwood's first regularly published book, following only a self-published poetry collection Double Persephone in 1961. It won her the first of her many awards, the Governor-General's Award. This copy has the contemporary ownership inscription on the half-title of Patrick Lane (b. 1939), an important Canadian poet of Atwood's Generation, who also won the G-G's award in 1978. A laid-in ticket for a more recent literary festival provides the provenance for the signature.
Octavo. Original wrappers, printed in red and black.
Light toning to wrappers, splash mark to front somewhat showing through on front endpaper, but otherwise very nice, overall a very good copy.
