First edition, first impression, with the rare dust jacket. "Rosenberg's poems from the front show him to have absorbed the great tradition of English pastoral poetry, but his tone is different: more impersonal, informal, ironic, and lacking the indignation characteristic of the work of Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon", who provides the foreword to this work (ODNB). Rosenberg was killed on the Western Front north-east of Arras on 1 April 1918 and buried in an unmarked grave. His remains were discovered eight years later and reinterred under a headstone in the Bailleul Road east cemetery in Flanders.Description

Bookplate of B. L. Friedman to front pastedown, their ownership inscription in pencil to front free endpaper. Minor rubbing to spine ends, foxing to edges, top edge faded; a very good copy in the foxed jacket with browned spine, scratches and short closed tears to extremities, loss to head of spine, chip to rear panel.
