First edition. The popular historian Lady Jackson was widely read in standard authorities (and even unpublished papers), and her narrative style - bumptious and with "a great deal of go" (Saturday Review, 25 Jan 1879, 117) - made her histories readable works of light literature. From the library of W. A. Foyle at Beeleigh Abbey, with his leather book label.
