Carter on the verso of the title page, 'For Julia Carter, with my warm greetings and in memory of a happy dinner party long ago, affectionately Marguerite De Angeli, 1949.' Winner of the 1950 Newbery Medal. Julia F. Carter, was the first full time children's librarian at the New York Public Library. Miss Carter was also the first national president of the Division of Library Work with Children and Young People of the American Library Association. She presented the first ever Caldecott Medal in 1938. Young adult title set in medieval England.
