The Easter Party.London: Michael Joseph, 1953 Stock Code: 148624
First edition, first impression, presentation copy inscribed on the front free endpaper "With love from V. and R. January 1953". The "R" stands for "Rollo", the author's German shepherd dog, featured in the novel as "Svend" and portrayed on the frontispiece. This is a very good copy of Sackville-West's penultimate novel.
"The action of the story covers an Easter weekend at Anstey, the beautiful country house of Sir Water Mortibois - a weekend which brings together a number of people who should have been close to each other... and the Alsatian, Svend, the one creature whom Walter Mortibois really loves" (front flap blurb).
Octavo. Original red cloth, spine lettered in gilt, yellow coated endpapers. With dust jacket.
Frontispiece portrait of a German shepherd dog.
Cocked, a hint of rubbing to corners, the binding otherwise bright, front hinge cracked but holding, rear hinge tender, else internally fresh and clean. A very good copy in good jacket, spine sunned, corners chipped with small loss to spine ends, a little toned, not price-clipped.
