The Elementary Forms of the Religious Life.
Translated from the French by Joseph Ward Swain.
London: George Allen & Unwin, Ltd.; The Macmillan Company, New York, 1915 Stock Code: 146071
First edition in English of Durkheim's sociological study of religion, first published in French in 1912 as Les Formes élémentaires de la vie religieuse, and one of his most influential and enduring works.
"In his last great work, The Elementary Forms of the Religious Life, Durkheim gave his most compelling demonstration of the structuralist method, tracing relationships between social organization, religious beliefs, and such fundamental categories of thought as space, time, and causation. He seemed to have brought about the 'sociologization of everything'" (Thompson).
The edition was split between the UK issue of George Allen & Unwin, and the US issue by Macmillan, this from the latter with Macmillan's imprint at foot of spine.
