The Emperor Romanus Lecapenus and his Reign,
a study of tenth-century Byzantium.Cambridge: at the University Press, 1929 Stock Code: 140963
First edition, first impression, of the author's debut work, very scarce with the dust jacket. This study emerged from Runciman's fellowship dissertation at Trinity College, Cambridge, and was the first of many books by him to bring the Byzantine world to a wider reading public. Although well represented in libraries, copies in trade are quite scarce and particularly difficult to find without ex-library stamps, especially so with the dust jacket.
Octavo. Original dark blue cloth, titles to spine gilt. With dust jacket.
Folding map and genealogical table at end, 4 maps in text.
An exceptionally sharp copy, small mark near bottom edge of rear board, the jacket price-clipped, with faint damp stains and toning to spine, minor chips or tears to ends and corners. Very good condition indeed.
