The Exchequer and the Control of Expenditure.
London: Humphrey Milford, 1921 Stock Code: 140281
First edition, first impression, the copy of the economist Lionel Robbins, with his ownership signature to the front free endpaper and the note of acquisition in June 1922. Robbins has made several annotations over the first few pages, summarizing the text in the margins. Robbins, along with Keynes, was the leading British economist of the inter-war period; at the London School of Economics, he "dominated the economics department for thirty years and built it up to its pre-eminent position in British economics" (ODNB). Ralph George Hawtrey (1879-1975) was a British economist, close friend of Keynes, and a member of the Cambridge Apostles, the University's intellectual secret society. In the present work he gives an overview of the British Exchequer and its operations.
