The Film Classics Library: Casablanca.New York: Universe Books, 1974 Stock Code: 142323
First edition, first printing, the copy of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, with his posthumous bookplate to the front pastedown. The book presents each shot of Casablanca with a caption of script.
Hefner's wrote in his Little Black Book (2001) that "Casablanca is my favorite film for many reasons. It has everything - lost love, redemption, friendship, patriotism, humor, adventure, and a great musical score. Humphrey Bogart is my favorite actor and this is his best role, the one that made him a star". Hefner said in a 2010 interview with the Los Angeles Times "I think I opened the first Playboy Club because of 'Casablanca'. I wanted to have a place where people came to hang out as they did at Rick's". The Playboy Mansion regularly hosted screenings of the film, and hosted Hefner's annual Casablanca-themed birthday party.
Following the death of Hefner in 2017, his library was sold with proceeds going to the Hugh M. Hefner Foundation, dedicated to promoting and preserving individual liberty, with a focus on sexual freedom and drug decriminalization.
