Actually the first edition, the work's status as a second relates to the earlier publication of the complete Taubat (under the title The Repentance of Nussooh) without such thorough scholarly apparatus. The present edition of the first five chapters being "intended for students who have a comparatively short time at their disposal in preparing for examinantion. The text is more fully punctuated, and the notes largely increased in number and a marginal analysis has been added paragraph by paragraph" (Preface). Uncommon, just three locations on WorldCat: SOAS, McGill and Leiden. The Taubat-un-Nasuh (or "Sincere Repentance") was written in 1873-74 and has been described as the masterpiece of the Urdu writer, social and religious reformer, and scholar Nazir Ahmad (1830-1912). The translator, Matthew Kempson, was Director of Public Instruction, N. W. India, between 1862 and 1878.

Octavo. Original terracotta cloth, title gilt to spine, panelling in blind to the boards, black surface paper endpapers.

A little rubbed, head and tail of spine crumpled, small hole to spine, single worm-track through from front board to end of text, light browning, informed pencil annotation to the margins, but overall very good.
