VANSITTART, Robert Gilbert, Lord.

The German Octopus.

First edition, first impression, of Vansittart's pamphlet advocating a draconian post-war policy towards Germany and the other Axis powers, supporting the permanent disarmament of the country and the punishment of German businesses. An interesting example of the hardline position towards Germany which many were advocating for, right to the top of the Allied command, with the pamphlet's propositions similar to the Morgenthau Plan of 1944, although not ever seriously considered by the victors.
