The Great Mouthpiece.
A Life Story of William J. Fallon.New York, Covici Friede, 1931 Stock Code: 96847
NotesFirst edition, first printing. An inscribed presentation copy from the author to his daughter, inscribed on recto of front free endpaper: "To my sweet darling,/ Jane, from her/ ever-doting parent,/ Gene Fowler/ 1931". An uncharacteristically benign inscription: Fowler's animus towards children was legendary. William J. Fallon (1886-1927) was one of the most flamboyant characters of 1930s Manhattan, described in Great American Lawyers: an Encyclopaedia, as "one of the three greatest criminal attorneys in the first half of the twentieth century".
Octavo. Original blue cloth lettered in gilt. With the dust jacket.
Some tears to dust jacket with some loss, small pale splash mark at foot of front panel. A very good copy in the scarce dust jacket.
