First edition. This political satire directed against the Elder Pitt has usually been attributed to Adam Ferguson. However, D. R. Raynor published an edition of the work in 1982 (Sister Peg, a pamphlet hitherto unknown by David Hume, Cambridge, CUP) with an authoritative introduction setting out the reasons for attribution to Hume. Description
Octavo (153 x 94 mm). Contemporary pale tan calf, spine ruled gilt in compartments, red leather label, preserved in a custom made cloth box.
Condition
Bookplate removed from front pastedown. Extremities very lightly rubbed. Title lightly toned, the odd mark, pencil marginalia erased; an excellent copy of a scarce title.
