Sir Leonard and his wife Katharine were good friends of Christie and her second husband, the archaeologist Sir Max Mallowan. Mallowan's archaeological career began as an assistant to Woolley at the excavations at Ur in southern Iraq, and through this friendship and tutelage Christie met Woolley's wife Katharine, on whom the character of Louise Leidner in Murder in Mesopotamia is purportedly based. Published in the US in the same year.
