The Hound of the Baskervilles was Sherlock Holmes's comeback after his shocking demise on the Reichenbach Falls stunned his loyal Victorian readership. When first serialized in the Strand Magazine in 1901 it was a great success, with queues at the publisher's office and throughout the country.
Octavo. Original red cloth, titles and art nouveau decoration to spine after a design by Alfred Garth Jones, enlarged on front cover incorporating silhouette of hound stamped in black.

Ticket of the Galignani Library to front pastedown. Scattered colour touch-ups to binding, rear board a little bowed, somewhat darkened, slight foxing to endpapers as usual, light rippling to plates only, light red staining to outer edges of endpapers and last few leaves; still, a very good copy.
