The Jazz Skyline.New Jersey: Savoy, 1956 Stock Code: 144460
Signed by Jackson in black marker pen above his name on the front cover. This is the original pressing of The Jazz Skyline, which finds Bags in the company of Lucky Thompson (tenor), Hank Jones (piano), Wendell Marshall (bass) and Kenny Clarke (drums).
This is a thoroughly enjoyable album of standards - Hank Jones's haunting "Angel Face" being the only original - comprising "Lover", "Can't Help Lovin' That Man", "The Lady is a Tramp", "Sometimes I'm Happy", and "What's New". Recorded in January 1955, it makes for an interesting comparison with Jackson's work with the MJQ at this time, pairing him with Kenny Clarke, who had left the quartet in the preceding January. Lucky Thompson shares the frontline and shapes some fine solos in his beautifully oblique manner.
12-inch vinyl LP (Savoy MG 12070), new plain paper sleeve (original sleeve also present), original album cover.
Some shelf wear, a little loss of paper from spine, touch of foxing to back cover otherwise very good; disc in excellent condition.
