The Making of Asbestos-Cement Roofings.
No Place: Asbestos Cement Building Products Ltd, [c. 1930] Stock Code: 140698
Rare first edition, first impression, of one of Robinson's commercial work, this one on asbestos, from its extraction to its transformation into roofing tiles, featuring some of the gadgets and contraptions for which he was to become famous. "Mr. W. Heath Robinson, the well-known artist, recently visited the works at Trafford Park, Manchester, and in the following pages he has portrayed the various processes of manufacture in his own inimitable way" (Introduction). As noted by Beare, "the directors were clearly delighted with Heath Robinson's drawings and made use for them in various ways". Also famous for his book illustrations, "these projects were often financially supported by his commercial work, which he began early in his career when a publishing deal fell through" (Williams).
