Notes

First editions. Each volume has an epigram, Henry Ford being a particular favourite with Melliand, but most germane is the one that he contributes himself: "A Textile Business without Science is a Loom without Power." Established in 1929 under the present title and continuing in various guises to the present day, where it is available online as Melliand International, the authoritative source for all "the latest scientific-technical information for all branches of the textile industry." The first number here is described as a "Specimen" and does appear to be some form of trial, or proof copy. Most volumes have the ink stamps of John Campbell & Co., of Hudson Street, NY, who were agents for The Amalgamated Dyestuffs & Chemical Works, Inc of Newark, manufacturers of sulfur and azo dyes and textile processing chemicals. A good early part-run of this fascinating textile trade periodical.
