NotesA very handsome set of the memoirs of the great libertine, one of a stated edition of 330 unnumbered sets (other sets are known with an edition limitation of 660). The text uses the translation of the Welsh mystic and author Arthur Machen, first published in 1894, with an introductory essay by the pioneering sexologist Havelock Ellis, taken from his 1898 collection Affirmations. It additionally includes the two chapters of the Memoirs rediscovered by Arthur Symons in 1899.
12 volumes, octavo (240 x 157 mm). Contemporary purple half morocco, spines lettered in gilt, compartments gilt, pink cloth sides, marbled endpapers, top edges gilt, others untrimmed.
