First edition, first impression. Presentation copy to the film director and screenwriter Elia Kazan, inscribed by the author on the title page "For Elia with affection & admiration from Cal". Cal was Lowell's nickname. The Old Glory is a play consisting of three pieces to be performed together as a trilogy, two being stage adaptations of short stories by Nathaniel Hawthorne, and the third, a stage adaptation of a novella by Herman Melville.
