Notes

First edition, first printing. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper "To my good friends Lila and DeWitt Wallace from Herbert Hoover". The recipient was the American magazine publisher William Roy DeWitt Wallace (1889-1981) and his wife Lila; husband and wife together co-founded the magazine Reader's Digest in 1922. The Ordeal of Woodrow Wilson was Herbert Hoover's study of the president, based in part on his own interactions with Wilson during the war years.
