Notes

First edition, first impression. Considered the playwright's most important work it was first performed in the Abbey Theatre in Dublin on 26 January 1907. The central theme of apparent patricide attracted a hostile public reaction and on the second night riots broke out and the rest of the play had to be performed in dumb show.
