Second Todd edition, here "with considerable additions", following the first of 1801, the major revision being to the "thorough biographical study of Milton" (ODNB) that appears in volume I. Todd's edition was the standard text for fifty years. A handsomely bound set.

Contemporary speckled calf, gilt titles and decorations direct to spines in compartments, raised bands, gilt fillet frame enclosing a blind-tooled foliate panel to sides, gilt rules to edges and turn-ins, French Shell pattern marbled edges and endpapers, blue ribbon bookmarkers.

Imposing armorial bookplates of Anthony Littledale, business partner of the West India and South American slave trader and merchant John Bolton. Ink annotations to p. 190, others in pencil, cracked joint to vol. 1, tips gently bumped, foxing to bookplates, minor internal foxing. A very good set, binding tight and presenting well.
