First edition thus, under the title of "The Poetical Works", published as part of Addey's Illustrated Classics series, this one dedicated to Rossetti. Hannay's collection was seen as the definitive collection of Poe's poetry, and "maintained its popularity for decades". An attractive early illustrated edition; preceded only by Vizetelly's Tales (1852).
Octavo (167 x 105 mm). Contemporary red half morocco, titles in gilt direct to spine, marbled boards and endpapers, gilt edges.
Engraved frontispiece and 19 illustrations in the text.
Rubbed, a small stain to rear joint, repair to top right corner of binder's first blank, light scattered foxing to first and last few leaves mostly; still a very good copy.
