A rare, thoroughly regional Midwestern guide to tree and bush fruits, including chapters on grapes, acknowledging a debt to Nicholas Longworth, and three pages on wine production, noting "In a country where wine is plenty and cheap, drunkenness is seldom known. A vinland is marked by sobriety and cheerfulness". Chase (1819-1870) went on to become Florida's first Superintendent of Education, and authored a book on housing and school building in the South. WorldCat locates six copies only, all in the US.
