First edition, in the attractive art nouveau style binding designed by William Henry Bradley. Referred to as the "Dean of American Designers" by the Saturday Evening Post, Bradley's illustrative art nouveau style was heavily influenced by Japanese block printing and the Arts and Crafts Movement (1880-1910). He was the highest paid artist of the early 20th century and remained an important figure in the graphic arts world until his death in 1962.
Octavo. Original green cloth, titles to spine and front board lettered in gilt, elaborate gilt-stamped design to both, top edge gilt, fore and bottom edge untrimmed.
Ownership signature to title page. A little wear to foot of spine and one tip, couple of tips bumped, front inner hinge cracked, visible at half-title, rear hinge cracked, still sound. A very good copy in bright cloth.
