The Riddle of the Sphinx: An Essay.
London: For Private Circulation (printed by Sherratt & Hughes), [1914] Stock Code: 141399
First and sole edition of this very scarce and interesting essay on education, printed for private circulation in presumably very small numbers. Presentation copy from the author, inscribed on the half-title, "With the Author's Kind Regards, 22 Oct. 1914, G. G. C.". Campion (d. 1945) was consulting dental surgeon to the Manchester Dental Hospital. He begins his introduction, "For over twenty years the writer has studied, as an amateur, the subject of education and read during this time much of the work of Pestalozzi, Froebel, Spencer, Herbart, Newman, James, and many books, reports and papers of later date". He was also the co-author of The Neural Basis of Thought (1934). An online search of institutional libraries traces just five locations, at Scotland, Leeds, Manchester, UCLA, and Florida
