First edition of this extremely useful chronological compilation; it is certainly uncommon, the print-run extending to 1,000 copies only, the printer's code reading "No. 15817-2-981,000"; an expanded second edition of 500 copies was printed in September (printer's code "No. 133230-9-98500"). Among British and Irish institutional libraries Copac cites copies at British Museum, Cambridge and London Library only, OCLC adds Aberystwyth University and a further 21 copies worldwide.

In the past The Risings on the North-West Frontier had been wrongly attributed to Churchill, who did famously contribute to The Pioneer's reporting on the campaign of Sir Bindon Blood's Malakand Field Force. Curt J. Zoller's Annotated Bibliography (2004) lays the blame for this at the door of Churchill's first bibliographer Bernard J. Farmer, "assigning a title to Churchill that he never wrote". Churchill does receive recognition, however, on page xx of Appendix IV, "General Jeffreys has praised... the courage and resolution of Lieutenant Churchill of the 4th Hussars, correspondent of the Pioneer newspaper with the force, who made himself useful at a critical moment".
