Horace and the Elegiac Poets. With a Memoir of the Author by Andrew Lang, M. A.Oxford: At the Clarendon Press, 1899 Stock Code: 140818
Handsomely bound copy of this overview of Roman poetry. Sellar's works, including "The Roman Poets of the Republic (1863), The Roman Poets of the Augustan Age: Virgil (1877), and Horace and the Elegiac Poets, edited by W. P. Ker (1892) were all remarkable examples of sound and sensitive literary criticism" (ODNB).
Octavo (184 x 120 mm). Contemporary dark blue calf, raised bands, red morocco label, compartments richly gilt, double fillet frames to boards gilt, Merchant Taylors' crest to front board gilt, marbled edges and endpapers.
Prize bookplate to front pastedown. Spine lightly sunned extremities slightly rubbed, bleeding from marbled edges affecting margins of prelims and endmatter. A very good copy.
